“OK – now go out and make a friend!” And with that, Buttercup (our city leader), sent all of K-town’s teams out to their respective campuses to befriend a college student. It was only our third day in the country, and I was definitely intimidated.
“Just walk onto a strange campus where I don’t speak the language and make a friend?” I thought. “Crazy.”
3:45 a.m.
The time on my cell phone reminded me that it was way too early to be awake, and yet it was the third time I’d woken up during the night. After over 40 hours of travel and two full days of work in a new city, struggling with intense jet-lag and lingering back pain, I can barely stay standing. Am I really ready for this? Do I really want to do this?
For those who have been praying for my money situation, I just want to let you know that God’s been good! He’s continued to be faithful, even when I have doubts that He will. It’s really great to see what happens when I put everything into His hands!
The beginning has come to an end, and now we start over again. Training has actually come to an end. Two intense weeks of preparing us for Asia was incredible but very exhausting. We had many sessions where we learned about loving God, loving people, and making disciples. God taught many things in those two weeks and now I feel like I am truly sent out to go to Asia.
I have a little secret: I’m rhythmically challenged. Maybe you already knew this, but I like to think I hide it pretty well. So imagine my chagrin when, during the last song of our commissioning service worship tonight, the worship leader (and my good friend) Jay-Z* pulled out a cowbell and looked right at me: [...]
I am so excited to go now! I have a far better idea now of exactly what I’m going to be doing once I get there, and I am almost ready to go! God has provided so much support for me – it’s amazing to see His faithfulness, even in spite of my doubt and anxiety.
Come on out to the Campus Target commissioning service, tonight at 6pm at Elim Gospel Church! The whole team will be there, and you can join them in worship, lay hands on and pray for them, and send them out full of excitement and anticipation at what the Lord is going to do this year. [...]

I’ve been thinking about roller coasters recently because I feel like I’m on one right now. You know the feeling that you get when you’re being slowly pulled up the huge initial hill? Ka-chink, ka-chink, ka-chink. But of course, it’s too late at that point –– you’re already committed. In just a few seconds, you’ll crest the hill, and the craziness will commence.
That’s me right now. I don’t know if you’ve heard yet, but I’ll be joining a team in Asia for the whole year, and we’re leaving in just a few weeks.
Today I leave “home.” I have two huge (read extremely heavy and difficult to move) suitcases with what I can only believe will hold the majority of what I will need in life for the next 10 months.
