Salvation Changers
As I was getting ready for bed, I heard a squeal from the other room and I knew exactly what the cause was. Most likely some sort of creature that didn’t belong in our home was in fact in our home and needed to be dealt with. So I ran to the rescue hoping to be of some assistance to our fearless leader who was now fear filled.
“Oh gross” she yelled as it flew from the curtain to the closet. I saw it land and then watched as it proceeded to walk boldly where no bug has hopefully gone before straight into the clothes closet. “Get it before we loose it”, I yelled. But we were too late, the bug had disappeared into the closet blending in with the dark wood.
This not so little guy was fast, and hard to see in the dimly lit wardrobe. I have to admit that my hopes weren’t high for finding him, but I pressed on in the thought of saving my roommate from having to sleep all night with a cockroach in her closet.
The search went on for quite awhile due to my determination. As I batted the clothes and searched with a flashlight I thought maybe he was no longer in the closet but had escaped below to the drawers. How gross would that be to have a huge cockroach roaming around in your underwear?
As we slowly opened the drawer, we began to poke around the clothes to try to locate this disappearing bug. Now with three of us on the prowl the poor thing didn’t stand a chance. “There he is” my partner said. Sure enough we found him…then lost him again. By this point we were done being nice and were going to do whatever it took to get this one bug!
I pulled out all three drawers in search for him and as I continued looking, he somehow escaped from the drawers and was making a mad dash across the wood floor. Bad move buggy. As Sierra tried to spray him with raid I attempted to jump on him and ended landing in the trail of raid. I nearly slid to my death just trying to get this bug.
When I finally caught up to him, I lifted my foot without a thought and ended it all. We cheered, relieved that it was finally over. After all the searching, striving, and determination to make something happen, we finally succeeded. In a way, I almost feel bad for the little guy.
When I think about this story, it makes me think of how I too often chase after salvation’s kind of like this poor little bug. It’s in our nature to go after things we want to see happen, and sometimes we get so focus minded we loose sight of the big picture. I went after that bug so hard that I killed it, and I do the same thing to God’s plans when I get too focused on what I want to see happen.
Thankfully, God has a way of bringing his plans back into focus for us. I started to let God take the reigns again in my friends lives and stopped trying to control the outcome of every situation. We now have three new sisters that have joined the family in the last week and it was nothing I expected or chased after. It was however the result of me backing off and letting God move in my friends hearts. Praise the Lord!
