Cankles & Jet Lag

For those of you who have flown for an extended period of time you know of a strange phenomena that seems to happen to your ankles. They tend to morph into your calves. You can’t tell where one ends and the other starts. This phenomena has a name and it is known as the “cankle”.

No matter how many times we have flown abroad we can’t seem to conquer the cankles. We have tried the plane exercises, walking up and down the aisles, frequent bathroom breaks but none of them win the battle against cankles.

Not only does the 15 hr flight to Asia give you the gift of cankles but it also gives you the added bliss of jet lag. No matter if you change your watch to the right time zone, take Tylenol PM, or try a million positions to get comfortable you will still end up having your head pop off the pillow at 4 am waking up bright eyed and bushy tailed.

As we were battling the elements of cankles and jet lag we somehow managed to find an amazing apartment just 1 block away from the main road in our city and only 2 wonderful blocks from our language school.

Through this past week in Asia we can see how God’s hand has been guiding us. All of our people are settled in and are having fun exploring their campuses and cities. Already we have heard stories of our people making divine connections and starting relationships with the students!

Working From Worth

These past 7 months have been the best months of my life! Serving the greatest God, marrying the hottest woman on the planet and working stateside for Campus Target; it doesn’t get any better than this! Now of course there are the challenges; fatigue, mis-communications and the beast of business. I think that last one, business, has been the biggest battle within these last months. We all are busy right? It seems like every week there are new things to do, communicate and brainstorm about. Every time I go to check something off the ‘to-do list’, I think of two more things to add on! And the thing with my ‘busy-bee’ mentality is that I can almost justify it by ‘work for the Lord’. We all know the story of Mary and Martha. It scares me sometimes when I look at my life examining motives and where I am gaining strength from. Socrates said, ‘The unexamined life is not worth living’. I think we all have to take time and examine our lives and schedules. Cutting out things, pruning stuff and adding should be an activity done by all of us. I don’t want my worth to come from work, but my work from worth. In other words, I don’t want my ministry to trump my relationship with God. Would you keep us in prayer during this season of Later this week, the new missions conference ETHNOS is taking place. We are stoked! Already there are 70 applicants for the conference! (We thought 50 people would be a success just to give you a reference) We are also having some big events later this spring, I’ll keep you posted about those! Right now we are smack-dab in the middle of our recruiting push! We want to see new missionaries launched to the harvest field, AMEN?! Would you join us in prayer and action as we continue to talk with young adults about coming to Asia with Campus Target. Maybe there is someone you know who is interested in missions or is in a season of transition. Success! BASIC Conference News!

As I came out into the spotlight, everyone at the BASIC conference
went nuts. There I stood; tall, handsome, a big head and a tail to fit
the part. I volunteered to help out with the conference in whatever
capacity the BASIC staff needed. And the opening night, they needed a

Yes that is me, Jay-Z. In the big fish costume. Dancing to thriller and
shaking my fins. (I know somehow this is going to come back and haunt
me). But we had lots of fun and conference itself was a total success!

We were believing for 10-15 good prospects and that’s exactly what we
got! All together we had 40 people fill out cards and say that they
were interested in Campus Target. And out of that group there are
definitely those 10-15! Thank you so much for your prayers! It was an
awesome time to connect with students and other ministries.

The main speaker at the event was Jude Fouquier, out of Seattle, WA.
The last night of the conference I shared about Campus Target and Jude
loved it so much he talked about going to Asia throughout the sermon that
night! It was unreal! And then afterwards he came to our booth and was
helping us out with recruiting. Fantastic! We really believe that we
are just scratching the surface in recruiting. Will you continue to
stand with us?

Prayer Points:

1) This upcoming weekend is a youth/young adult conference called
‘Saturate’. We will be there for part of the conference, but please
pray for some divine appointments during that time. Its from this
Thursday – Saturday.

2) We are going to be doing follow up from the BASIC conference last
weekend. Please pray that the students who has a seed planted in their
hearts will continue to be open and willing to follow what the Lord is
saying.

3) Over this past week we had 7 students come to know the Lord in
Asia! Awesome! Keep our teams over there in your prayers and stay

BASIC

Today starts the BASIC conference in Syracuse, NY! BASIC stands for
‘Brothers and Sisters in Christ’ and is a network of students &
churches in the Northeast that meet to enjoy life together, learn
about God, and make a difference in the world. Every semester they
meet and have a dynamic conference. And we have the privledge to
attend and represent Campus Target this weekend!

I can not think of a more opportune place for young adults to hear thecall! As you know, we are believing for 30 young adults to join us in China this upcoming year. This could be the start and the first fruits of that prayer. I have a couple things that you can pray for!

1) That these students and everyone attending would be rocked by the Lord!
2) For divine connections and relationship building throughout the
whole weekend.
3) From this weekend, we would have 10-15 students who say ‘Yes!’ to coming with us.

To be in a place where 400 college students have one purpose is going to be surreal. And that one-sole purpose is to glorify God. I have been sensing all week that the atmosphere is going to be charged and we are going to see great things happen! Thank you so much for believing and standing with us!

Holy Matrimony Batman

I can’t believe it! Beyonce and I are married!!! It has been a surreal
experience these past 3 weeks. From our actual wedding to
honey-mooning in Maui; and now we are smack-dab in the middle of
training this year’s team for Asia.

Beyonce and I have been finding time here and there to set up our
apartment and get things unpacked. It’s been so much fun opening gifts
and using our gift cards to buy things for the house, it’s fantastic!

We want to thank you for your prayers and support during these past
months! Even though there were some stressful times with the wedding
and all, we felt covered and smothered with your love and prayers. We
have truly experienced the favor of the Lord in our lives during this
past month. Spiritually and financially, in every area, the Lord has
been faithful!

We are thrilled about what lies ahead for us. If you haven’t already
heard, Beyonce and I will not be going with the team to Asia this next
year. There are multiple levels to this decision, but we felt strongly
from the Lord that we should take this next six months to a year and
stay stateside.

As Beyonce and I were going through this process before the Lord, He was
also speaking to our stateside staff saying, “Go to Asia!”. Ha, so
you can see where this is headed. And so as of right now and
throughout the rest of the year Beyonce and I are running the Campus
Target office. (I have watched ‘The Office’ seasons 3-5, so I am ready
to go) Finances, administration, recruiting and running training
events are the main things that will be doing. What fun, huh!?!?

Our income will still be through monthly support, so we apprieciate
your faithfulness so much! From having a crazy summer we didn’t do any
support raising at all, but in these months ahead we are going to
start it up! We are really looking forward to connecting and seeing you!

I have to say, I feel like the luckiest guy in the whole world. A God
that never fails, the best wife in the world, getting to play a part
in the great commission and partnering with YOU! Beyonce and I pray the
Lord blows your socks off with blessings and His presence!

Grace flavored Gatorade

I think there’s always times in our lives when we want to take it to the next level. It could be sports to eating habits; from our social life to our devotional life. I don’t know if it comes from seeing other people who excell at certain areas or we see the lack of ability when we look in the mirror! But I know we can all identify times when we’ve pulled it together and willed to pick the pace up.

I’m happy to say that I encountered one of those times recently! Yay! Being a team leader has been outstanding. Being a team leader has been a stretching experience at times. Being a team leader has brought my strengths. Being a team leader has relentlessly exposed my weaknesses. And I can honestly say that it’s been an breathtaking ride so far.

From team meetings to individual meetings. From time management to daily efficiency there has been a page turned. I am so thankful to the man directly above me, Sonny. And more thankful to the man above us all, Big Papa!

I am so thankful to God for His amazing grace during this time. It’s like that marathon runner that grabs a drink from a by-stander during the race. More than hydration, the drink gives him an energy to keep going and pushing harder. Thats what I’ve felt like God has done for me. As I am running and trying to finish strong; He has held out His hand and given me the energy and grace needed for completion.

That Good Ol’ Changing Power!

There have been so many times where I’ve wondered if my friends are really changed. I mean…I know they are in the family, don’t get me wrong. But is there an active process happening in their life? Are they evolving into who God wants them to be? Getting to know God more and more? I am talking about something more than discipleship. The inner process that takes ‘teaching’ off the page and makes it personal in their lives.

I wonder about this in my own life sometimes. Stopping every so often and evaluating where I am in my walk with the Lord. Am I growing towards Him? Am I still running after Him with all my heart? I’m always honest with myself. And sometimes it’s encourging to see where I am; and other times I need a kick in the tail!

During the first month I was here I made a friend named Roy. And right from bat he joined the family. He was excited to make the decision. We continued to hang out and getting to know each other. He started coming to our weekend party and plugging in with other family members. It was incredible to watch that process!

I knew Roy was starting out on the journey of a lifetime! Roy knew that smoking and partying weren’t things that God liked him to do. So we talked about that quite a bit. And I continued to pray for Him to be set free!

And it happened! This past weekend Roy told me that he has not drank or smoked in a month! I about jumped out of my skin! I was completly shocked! He continued to tell me how He wants to make God happy and live His life for Him.

God is continuing to move in tremendous ways! I know I can trust Him with my life! My future! And my friends lives!

People of His presence

As much time that’s spent on building relationship, eating crazy food, having early morning and sometimes longer nights; my heart beats that all my friends would experience and know the Lord on an intimate level.

Our friends recieve a lot of foundation level teaching. Which is great! And it’s done by the national leadership here! But lately I’ve been asking myself…’but what about hearing God’s voice for their life? What about developing the gifts of the Spirit? What about laying hands on the sick? What about helping the poor? Standing and prophecying the word of the Lord? What about treasuring the presence of God?’

I know the thing that changed my life was when I started hearing the voice of God. When His words starting jumping off the page at me. When I couldn’t even eat because I wanted more of Him desperately. When I would sit in our lounge at school for hours and just listen to Him. That’s when Carl changed. That’s when my heart got consumed with Him. And those moments eventually led me to where I am today.

That’s what I want my friends to experience! Heck…that’s what I want the world to experience! Not getting smarter by read the Book! Not to sing a nice song! Not just to say the prayer and to attend a meeting on the weekend. But become a people of His presence. Who know who they are and know who He is.

The Amazing Sonny

I think one of the sweetest things about being here is that I get to chill and be around so many all stars! At one time! For a year! I mean, if I can chill with cool people for day, that makes me happy. But spending a whole year with people that are chasing God and His will is life changing in itself.

And one of my favorites here is Sonny. (I think thats his name…if its not…he is the one who is really tall, married, and his real name rhymes with Kobe.) It’s been energizing hanging out and learning from him.

One of the things on his heart has been starting a group for the young leaders that are here. There is a lot of emphasis on the new believers, but there has not been a solid teaching time with the ones who are stepping up in leadership roles.

And this past saturday was the first class! And it was off the hook! Sonny has asked me to be a part of the group and to help him out a little bit. The purpose being, when the next classes begin I would be teaching them. Which is pretty sweet! And then I would have someone with me, to help out and learn how to do it.

It’s an honour to be in these classes with my friends. It’s amazing to see their hunger to learn more about God and wanting their foundations strengthened and built up. I’m continually blown away by what God is doing here!
