Ministry

What will ministry look like?
Campus Target is all about relationship evangelism. You will work with your partner to build and nurture friendships on the college campuses in Asia. If you’re a self-starter and creative, you’ll do well, because you will be given a good deal of freedom to develop your own ministry style. We encourage you to build from your skills and interests. If you like sports, hang out at the basketball courts for an afternoon. If you like cooking, ask a new friend from the English Corner to help you shop for and cook a fun meal at your home.
Why is relational ministry effective?
At the heart of Campus Target’s ministry is relational evangelism and discipleship. This form of ministry is powerful because you get to lead friends to Jesus by applying the Gospel to their life. When you do this, their relationship with the Lord is now personal and relevant to their felt needs. You will also work with your newly-believing friends in discipleship and involving them in the local church, giving them a foundation on which they can grow after you leave the country.
What in the world is an English Corner?
An English Corner is a weekly event where hundreds of Asian college students gather to practice their English skills. It’s a great place to meet people, get their phone numbers, and set up future hang out times.
Since I’m not a full-time student or teacher, can I do whatever I want with my time?

Even though you will have a good deal of responsibility yourself, your time will not be without structure. Many of your mornings will be used to study the language with a tutor, team meetings, or strategizing and praying with your partner about how to best reach your new Asian friends. Team members have also used the mornings to work on individual projects like writing a book, or learning to play a musical instrument. We want to encourage the team members to develop skills that they are already interested in and feel like the Lord may be calling them to use.

Most days, you and your partner will have from lunchtime on to meet for meals, do activities, and share Jesus with your new friends. Your evenings will come alive as you disciple new believers through Bible Studies and help them meet and get plugged in with other local believers.

What if I’ve never done Missionary work before?
That’s okay! To Campus Target, a missionary is a person who is ready to lay down his or her personal preferences and desires in order to lead others into a relationship with Jesus. Your effectiveness is not necessarily based on previous experiences, but it is measured by your willingness to let the Lord work in and through you. You will be challenged to develop real community and relationship with your teammates, step out of your comfort zones to share the Gospel, invest in other’s lives, and honor authority. In these areas (and others), you can know how effective you have been in your year.
