Only a few days left! I flop onto my bed, overwhelmed as I look around my room at the piles of items still waiting to be squeezed into the suitcases that suddenly look much too small. The next ten months of my life need to fit into only two pieces of luggage. The girls I am joining in Asia have sent me emails advising me how to pack. One friend told me, “I wish I had packed less clothes and had room to bring hot chocolate packets, Reese’s peanut butter cups, and Hershey’s kisses!? Hmmm… I briefly ponder the thought that if I wear the same outfit every single day, I will have plenty of room in my suitcase to help sustain my chocolate addiction.
Speaking of my addictions, I am slightly worried about making the jump from Starbucks coffee to tiny little cups of green tea. I was never much of a coffee fan until two weeks ago. While enjoying my final moments with friends and family members, I have learned that true bonding can only take place over a pumpkin spice latte or a caramel frappucino!
I know life will be different in Asia, but I cannot wait to start making friends there! I just heard that my best friend mygirl who has been there just two months got to lead one of her Asian friends to Christ last night!! The excitement hit me all over again – This is why I decided to go to Asia in the first place! The Asian students are so open to the Gospel right now. They are anxious to make American friends, and are hungry to learn about God. They just need friends who will care enough to come and share with them the good news about Jesus!
